Scam email purporting to be Halifax mortgage offer

We have been made aware of an email purporting to be from the Halifax that contains links to suspected malware. DO not click on those links and preferably delete the email without opening it. 

The email header appears as follows (note the real email address of the scamming sender under the apparently correct alias).

From: halifaxintermediaries@halifax.co.uk [mailto:halifaxintarmadaries@btconnect.com]
Sent: 14 August 2017 00:22
To: Your Email Address
Subject: Confirmation Of Mortgage Offer

Fake letterhead

We've been made aware that someone is using fake letterhead for communications purporting to be from DC Law. 

The fake letterhead looks like this:

Please let CLC know if you see it being used. 


16th May 2017 

Phishing email 

The CLC is aware of further phishing emails sent out, this time in the name of Spencer Elliott.
 
These emails advise the recipient to open a link to the TR1.
 
This is a further reminder to all concerned to be extremely vigilant when opening emails and wary of clicking on any links.

Email purporting to be from HM Land Registry

A CLC firm has alerted us to a scam email that they have received.  It purports to come from a Land Registry office but the senders email address is clearly not an official one.  The email includes an attachment.

Common phishing email 

We are aware that a particular phishing email is being sent around to conveyancers frequently.  It includes an attachment that opens up a web page. 

The wording is generally along the lines below.

Wording of common phishing email: 

Dear Sirs,

We confirm we are instructed to act on behalf of the purchaser of the above mentioned property and note that we still await draft contracts from you.  Please see below Memorandum of sale for the above purchase.

We await to hear from you.
